In The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Makoto is having a horrible day. She was late for class, flunked a test, had a terrible mishap on campus and, just when she thought her day couldn’t get worse, her brakes give out on her bike, sending her careening in front of a passing train—and that’s when Makoto discovers she can leap backward through time. Suddenly, tests become a piece of cake and embarrassing situations are a thing of the past and she can enjoy her favorite meals whenever she wants! Unfortunately for her friends and family, her time traveling is causing significant problems and, if Makoto wants to stop something truly bad from happening, she’ll have to find a way to fix the timeline before it’s too late.

Book Clubs at the BPL

We love books.

We love the smell of books, the feel of books when we hold them in our hands, the weight of a new novel tucked under our arm.  We love reading books and talking about books, too.  If you feel the same way, make sure to check out one of our book clubs and join the conversation!

Nevermore
Our Nevermore book club meets every week at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesdays.  Our longest running club, Nevermore is all about sharing coffee and donuts and book recommendations.  Read whatever you like - whether it's a mystery novel or a manual on aeronautical engineering - and simply tell everyone why you loved it.  You might even get a chance to pass on your favorite book to a new friend!

The BPL Book Club
The BPL Book Club meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Frances Kegley Conference Room.  We read the same book each month and spend the evening discussing what we liked, what we disliked, what we loved or hated about our most recent book.  We read new books each month, varying from historical nonfiction to young adult to science fiction to classic novels.

Anyone is welcome to join at any time!  Our BPL Book Club is all about enjoying good books, good company, and sweet treats.

The Great American Novel Book Club
Our newest official book club, the Great American Novel Book Club was inspired by the PBS' Great American Read.  We meet on the final Friday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at a new location.  Readers will check out a new novel by American authors each month and discuss what makes the novel great, what makes it a success or a flop, and more.

We will be hosting our first book club meeting at the Bristol Public Library on May 25 at 6:30 p.m.  This month, we'll kick off our inaugural meeting by reading and discussing The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

This summer, the Bristol Public Library will be creating a rock garden!  Thanks to the ideas of our local rock painters, we're going to use a couple of the planters beside the library for our rock garden!   We have some weeding and mulching to do, and then we'll officially christen our new garden.

We'll be weeding and building our sign on Friday, and then we'll be mulching and planting flowers on Saturday.  We already have a few volunteers for our project, but if you have any ideas for our rock garden project or if you'd like to drop off a few of your own painted rocks, feel free to contact us at the library at 276-645-8780 or ajohnson@bristol-library.org.
